Arfa’a Wulanda Agnia (Arfa)

Arfa is a physics engineer currently pursuing Master’s degree in Sustainable Energy Engineering at STT PLN Indonesia. Her final bachelor degree project was focused on designing biosignal for personal-medical monitoring system with Internet of Things (IOT). Arfa was an intern at the Office for International Cooperation (OIC) and Centre for Sustainable Energy and Resources Management (CSERM), Universitas Nasional. In 2017, she was selected to participate in Global Leadership Development Programme at Far East University – South Korea. In 2019, she was awarded the Top Bachelor Graduate of the Year from Universitas Nasional. She brings expertise in collection and analysis of quantitative data relating to application of appropriate technology in local communities. She is actively seeking opportunities on research that tries to develop communities capacity in applying environmentally sustainable technology to improve their well-beings.

Dr. Asep Adhikerana (Asep)

Dr. Adhikerana obtained his PhD in Biology (Behavioral Ecology) from University of St. Andrews, UK. He is an expert in forest management and conservation issues in Indonesia, and has been a qualified manager with more than 10 years of experience leading the research and implementation of conservation and environmental programs in Indonesia. He has experience in all aspects of program management, including administrative, financial, monitoring and technical matters related to biodiversity conservation and climate change in Indonesia (e.g., Sumatra and Kalimantan, Indonesia). Dr. Adhikerana promotes conservation-oriented best practices within Indonesian extractive industries, such as logging industries, coal mining industries, and palm oil estate-plantations. In so doing, he collaborates closely with those industries with unique experiences, where approaches to developing sustainable best practices to each type of industries have been different for each has its own business’ goals. In the issues of policy environment, mainstreaming the nature conservation into local spatial planning (both provincial and district levels) has been his extensive experience.

NEW GRANT AWARDED FOR CSERM UNAS RESEARCHERS

We are delighted to announce that a member of our research team, Dr. Radisti A. Praptiwi, has just been awarded a grant from the GCRF Blue Communities Early Career Researcher Network (ECRN) Pilot Project. The pilot project is a collaborative effort between early career researchers in CSERM UNAS and Universiti Malaya, with Dr. Voon-Ching Lim will act as the Co-Principal Investigator, and involving other researchers from both institutions: Carya Maharja and Prawesti Wulandari (CSERM UNAS), and Wan Nur Syazana (Universiti Malaya).

Aided through a series of workshops involving mentors from the GCRF Blue Communities experts, the team developed and pitched the ideas during the ECRN Meeting at the annual meeting of GCRF Blue Communities in Plymouth, UK (5 – 16 August 2019). Through the funded project, the team will seek to explore and find ways to integrate Local Knowledge and Perception in the Assessment of Coastal Ecosystem Services.
